Position: Remote Infectious Disease Physician - AI Trainer ($160-$200 per hour)

About the Role

Mercor is hiring Infectious Disease Physicians on behalf of a healthcare AI partner developing advanced clinical decision‑support systems focused on diagnostics, antimicrobial stewardship, and population‑level infectious disease intelligence. In this role, you will apply deep clinical expertise to review, annotate, and validate infectious disease‑related medical data, directly shaping safe and reliable medical AI. This is an in‑person position based in San Francisco.

This role bridges real‑world infectious disease practice with applied AI, ensuring that complex diagnostic reasoning, guideline adherence, and edge‑case scenarios are accurately represented in model training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and label clinical narratives, EHR notes, microbiology reports, and case data related to infectious diseases.
  • Identify and validate pathogens, diagnostic workups, antimicrobial regimens, resistance patterns, and outcomes.
  • Audit annotated datasets for clinical accuracy and guideline alignment (IDSA, CDC, WHO).
  • Evaluate AI‑generated recommendations for antimicrobial selection, duration, and escalation.
  • Define annotation guidelines for complex infections (e.g., sepsis, endocarditis, opportunistic infections).
  • Advise on taxonomy and edge cases such as immunocompromised hosts and emerging pathogens.
  • Review AI‑generated clinical summaries and treatment suggestions.
  • Provide structured feedback to improve diagnostic reasoning and safety.
  • Contribute to specialty‑specific annotation standards and onboarding materials.
Requirements
  • MD or DO with Infectious Disease specialization.
  • Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Infectious Disease.
  • Active U.S. medical license in good standing.
  • 5+ years of post‑fellowship clinical experience.
  • Experience with inpatient consults and complex infections preferred.
  • Strong familiarity with EHRs, microbiology data, and clinical terminologies.
  • Interest in medical AI or informatics preferred.
Work Arrangement

In person (SF), part‑time (up to 10 hours / week). Flexible schedule, designed for actively practicing clinicians.
