ABOUT MRIoAFounded in 1983, Medical Review Institute of America (MRIoA) is a nationally recognized Independent Review Organization (IRO) specializing in technology‑driven utilization management and clinical medical review solutions. We’re a leader in Peer and Utilization Reviews, known for excellence and continuous improvement.
THE OPPORTUNITYWe’re seeking a Board‑Certified Sports Medicine/Family Medicine physician to assist in Utilization Review work, which involves evaluating medical records to determine whether healthcare services—such as treatments, procedures, medications, or levels of care—are medically necessary, appropriate, and compliant with established clinical guidelines. The role includes reviewing documentation, comparing it to evidence‑based criteria such as Inter Qual, MCG, and Medicare policies, and ensuring that the care being delivered meets regulatory and health‑plan requirements.
Utilization Review work helps verify that patients receive the right care at the right time, prevents unnecessary or duplicative services, supports safe transitions between care settings, and promotes efficient use of healthcare resources.
- Stay up‑to‑date on clinical practices and treatment trends in your specialty
- Flexibility: work 1‑2 hours a week, or more if you prefer. Daytime availability is required.
- Gain insight into the approval process for your own patients’ treatments
- Most reviews take just 30–60 minutes to complete each review
- No minimum case requirements
- Remote, work‑from‑home position—work anywhere in the U.S.
- Covered by MRIoA’s Errors and Omissions policy (not traditional malpractice insurance)
- Independent contractor role (1099 status)
- Work can only be done within the U.S. per regulations
- MD or DO, currently Board Certified in Sports Medicine & Family Medicine
- Minimum 5 years of direct, clinical experience in Family Medicine (including Residency)
- Willingness and availability for daytime peer‑to‑peer conversations
- Unrestricted, current PENNSYLVANA medical license
- Strong computer and online navigation skills
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder (Visa sponsorship is not available)
