Position Summary
This position is eligible for Recruitment/Relocation Incentives, the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) and the Physician Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP). Qualifications- Basic Requirements
- United States citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy).
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree, obtained from a VA‑approved school under the year the study was completed.
- Full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth or District of Columbia.
- Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program (ACGME or AOA). Residents enrolled in approved programs and who otherwise meet the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Physical requirements:
walking, bending, stooping and some lifting in direct patient care; may also involve extended periods of sitting.
- Additional Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in geriatrics; supervisor experience preferred but not required.
- Board certification in Geriatric Medicine is preferred.
- The Chief of Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) reports to the Associate Chief of Staff for Medicine Service at the Tomah VAMC, WI.
- Provides administrative and clinical oversight for the GEC Service Line, including Community Living Centers, Home Based Primary Care panels, graduate medical education, and scientific research.
- Provides oversight for Geriatric Medicine within the GEC Service Line and serves as backup provider for the Hospitalist/Medical Officer of the Day.
- Ensures knowledge of acute and complex chronic illnesses, mental illnesses, and end‑of‑life care. Familiar with administrative procedures, quality measurement, and regulatory standards (Long‑Term Care Standards, The Joint Commission, etc.).
- Work schedule:
Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑4:30 pm or 7:30 am‑4:00 pm.
- Competitive salary with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases.

- Paid time off: 50‑55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, plus 5 days for CME).

- One full, unrestricted state license required; CME reimbursement possible up to $1,000 per year (must be full‑time with board certification).
