Job Summary

We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Surgical Oncologist for a clinical track faculty position at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Division of Surgical Oncology is a collegial, dynamic group offering state-of-the art care for patients with malignant and benign conditions. The Department of Surgery at the University of Michigan, founded in 1850, is internationally recognized for excellence in patient care and education.

Our Department works in close concert with the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center, a NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, that is widely acclaimed as a leader in clinical cancer care and research.

This recruitment is for a surgeon with a clinical interest and experience in gastric, foregut, and peritoneal malignancies, including minimally invasive approaches. Expertise and interest in performing and growing Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) is also required. Depending on candidate interest and experience, the practice may also encompass other aspects of gastrointestinal oncologic surgery. Requirements include completion of fellowship training (complex general surgical oncology or equivalent) and interest in teaching residents and medical students.

Although the primary focus of the candidate's role will be clinical, other interests such as research, education, and quality improvement can be accommodated. An appropriate leadership role can accompany the appointment depending on candidate interest and qualifications.

Required Qualifications
  • Medical doctorate degree.
  • Completion of a general surgery residency training program.
  • American Board of Surgery certification or eligibility.
  • Hold or have the ability to obtain the appropriate medical licenses in the State of Michigan and a Federal DEA registration.
  • Demonstrated ability as an academic surgeon.
  • Evidence of competence in clinical and didactic teaching is expected.
  • Evidence of scholarly ability (publications in peer-reviewed journals, successful acquisition of external funding, etc.) is also expected.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.

Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
