Urologic Oncology Clinician
Our department is seeking an energetic, collaborative, and growth-oriented urologist with a subspecialty focus in Urologic Oncology to be a founding member of the Troy Center for Specialty Care team. This position offers the opportunity to help build a comprehensive, multidisciplinary-integrated Urologic Oncology program at Michigan Medicine's new Troy Center for Specialty Care, scheduled to open in the summer of 2027.
The urologist will deliver care for cancers of the genitourinary tract, including prostate, bladder, kidney, and testicular cancers, with a particular emphasis on early detection, minimally invasive evaluation, and cancer survivorship. They will perform the full complement of in-office and operating room urologic oncology procedures, including flexible and rigid cystoscopy, office-based bladder biopsy and fulguration, transperineal MRI-targeted and systematic prostate biopsy, transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT), and ureteroscopy at TCSC and affiliated sites.
This position is an excellent opportunity to grow a practice and deliver comprehensive oncologic urologic care in a region with strong patient demand and limited access to subspecialty oncologic urology. In this role, you will work with a variety of physicians from inside and outside Michigan Medicine to build a practice in a new region with the full support of an existing department and fellowship-trained colleagues behind you.
ResponsibilitiesThis clinic will be staffed by 1.0 FTE urologist (new hire) with a subspecialty focus in Urologic Oncology. We do not necessarily expect this individual to have completed a urologic oncology fellowship. This individual's effort will be allocated as follows:
- 50% in the Urologic Oncology Clinic (Troy Specialty Center)
- 50% in procedure/operating room-based care (cystoscopy suite and OR at TCSC and affiliated sites)
Clinical Conditions
Primary Focus Areas
- Prostate cancer early detection and risk stratification (PSA screening, MRI-fusion biopsy, biomarker testing)
- Gross hematuria evaluation and workup
- Early-stage bladder cancer diagnosis and surveillance
- Kidney cancer evaluation and management
- Cancer survivorship and long-term oncologic follow-up
- Testosterone deficiency in the prostate cancer patient
Additional Conditions (local access, not primary focus)
- Testicular cancer follow-up and survivorship
- Upper tract urothelial carcinoma
- Penile cancer
- Lower urinary tract symptoms in the oncologic patient
Weekly Schedule
The clinic is structured as a 4-day clinical week with dedicated time for both outpatient evaluation and procedure-based care:
- 2 days/week:
Outpatient oncology clinic (new patients, return visits, survivorship, PSA follow-up, shared decision-making) - 2 days/week:
Procedures (cystoscopy suite and/or OR) - see Procedures section below
In-Clinic Procedures
TCSC will be equipped with a procedure/cystoscopy suite for:
- Flexible and rigid cystoscopy
- Office-based bladder biopsy and fulguration
- Transperineal prostate biopsy (MRI-targeted and systematic)
- Foley and suprapubic catheter management
Primary OR-Based Procedures
- Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT)
- Ureteroscopy
- Other minor urologic oncology procedures
The selected candidate must have a MD or DO degree and be board certified or board eligible. Successful candidates will have completed urology residency. The candidate must hold or have the ability to hold the appropriate State of Michigan medical licenses. Evidence of clinical competence is expected as well as evidence of scholarly activity (publications in peer-reviewed journals).
