Position Overview

The Field Remote Regional Medical Officer is responsible for leading clinical operations and clinical financial performance within a designated region. This leader will maintain and continuously improve the company’s clinical model while partnering closely with the EVP and General Manager to launch new regions, establish strong clinical operations, and drive sustainable growth.

The Regional Medical Officer will serve as both a clinical leader and business partner, combining exceptional patient care with a strong understanding of value-based care, healthcare economics, risk management, and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities Clinical & Operational Leadership
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for performance-based medical management across the region.
  • Oversee and participate in the management of clinical divisions within the region.
  • Maintain and enhance the company’s clinical model, processes, and standards of care.
  • Develop and implement timely, high-quality clinical and operational decisions.
  • Collaborate with the EVP and General Manager to support the launch and growth of new markets.
  • Work effectively with non-clinical departments to achieve organizational and regional objectives.
  • Promote innovation and identify opportunities to improve outcomes, quality, efficiency, and the patient experience.
Financial & Business Performance
  • Manage clinical budgets, financial performance, and key risk drivers.
  • Analyze local profit and loss performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor healthcare business metrics, utilization trends, and unit-cost economics.
  • Analyze and report business and clinical performance to customers, senior management, and the Board of Directors.
  • Apply a value-based care mindset to utilization management, including appropriate emergency department utilization and skilled nursing facility length of stay.
Provider & Customer Relationships
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with physicians, providers, facilities, and other healthcare partners.
  • Maintain a customer-driven commitment to clinical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to improve the health outcomes of the assigned patient population.
  • Hire, develop, coach, and reward staff in alignment with the company’s strategy and values.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and clinical excellence.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to clinical teams throughout the region.
Clinical Responsibilities

The Regional Medical Officer will also perform clinical duties associated with the Extensivist model, including:

  • Evaluate and treat patients in hospitals and in the home, as needed.
  • See patients in the Care Center, as applicable.
  • Provide follow-up care for high-risk patients discharged from the hospital, with hospitalist/clinic follow-up until the patient is clinically stabilized.
  • Evaluate and manage skilled patients in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), generally seeing patients approximately once per week while they remain skilled, typically for 1–2 weeks.
  • Across all care settings, develop comprehensive and coordinated plans of care using information from medical records, patients and families, primary care physicians, specialists, and other members of the care team.
  • Coordinate care across healthcare settings to improve outcomes, reduce avoidable utilization, and support an efficient patient-centered care model.
Required Qualifications
  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Completion of an Internal Medicine or Family Medicine residency program in the United States.
  • Board certification required; board eligibility may be considered where appropriate.
  • Active TX medical license.
  • Active DEA license.
  • NPI required upon start.
  • 5+ years of Hospitalist, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine experience preferred; graduating residents and fellows may also be considered.
  • 1+ year of administrative experience preferred.
  • 1+ year of managed care experience preferred.
