An acute care hospital in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant for PRN coverage in a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit.

The Physician Assistant will provide critical-care coverage for cardiothoracic surgery patients in a 32-bed department consisting of a 16-bed intensive care unit and a 16-bed step-down unit. Candidates must be comfortable managing high-acuity patients, central lines, and ECMO care.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide critical-care management for cardiothoracic surgery patients

• Evaluate and manage high-acuity ICU patients

• Provide postoperative cardiothoracic surgery care

• Perform and manage central-line procedures

• Participate in ECMO management

• Coordinate care with intensivists, surgeons, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and other clinical team members

• Complete accurate and timely Epic documentation

• Support safe transitions between the intensive-care and step-down settings

Practice Environment

The department includes 16 intensive-care beds and 16 step-down beds.

Physician Assistants work with in-house intensivists during the day. Intensivists are available from home during night coverage.

The stated staffing assignment is approximately one provider for every eight patients during the day and one provider for every 16 patients at night.

Required Qualifications

• Certified Physician Assistant

• Active Pennsylvania Physician Assistant license required at the time of presentation

• Current national Physician Assistant certification

• Active DEA registration

• Critical-care experience

• Experience managing cardiothoracic surgery patients

• Central-line experience

• ECMO management experience

• Ability to work independently within the defined support structure

• Ability to complete facility credentialing and privileging requirements

Schedule

This is a PRN assignment with daytime and nighttime coverage options. Available shifts are 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. No call coverage is required.

Travel

This assignment is intended for drive-in candidates. Approved travel support may include mileage and lodging, or car rental and lodging, according to the assignment’s travel policy.

Candidates must hold an active Pennsylvania Physician Assistant license at the time of presentation, current national PA certification, and an active DEA registration. Critical-care experience is required. Candidates must be comfortable with cardiothoracic surgery patients, central lines, and ECMO management. This is PRN day or night coverage with no call.
