Position: Parent Educator (Home Visitor)

Parent Educator (Home Visitor)

Children's Place Association is seeking a Parent Educator to provide weekly home visits for families enrolled in our Home Based Education program. The role involves implementing learning games, the Parents as Teachers curriculum, and maintaining confidential family files, while fostering strong relationships with parents and collaborating with program staff.

Base Pay Range

$38,000.00/yr – $45,000.00/yr (actual pay based on skills and experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Schedule and conduct weekly home visits with families enrolled in the Home Based Education program.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate home activities; collaborate with parents to develop weekly activity plans based on each child’s assessment and family needs.
  • Facilitate active parental involvement during visits by presenting appropriate activities for parents to use with their children.
  • Collaborate with parents to develop individualized education plans that reflect cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Use positive guidance techniques to promote self‑control in children.
  • Observe, assess, and document each child’s health, skills, behavior, growth, and development; enter required data into online systems.
  • Identify children with special needs and make referrals for services as needed.
  • Integrate health, nutrition, mental health, parent involvement, and special needs components into home visits.
  • Maintain confidential family files for each caseload.
  • Collaborate with the Family Support Specialist and Home Based Education Supervisor on case‑management screenings and staffing.
  • Advocate for families and serve as a liaison between families, the program, and the larger community.
  • Assist with recruitment and enrollment of new eligible families.
  • Participate in ongoing training and staff development provided by Early Head Start, Chicago Public Schools, and other experts.
  • Plan and implement group socializations and monthly parent meetings.
  • Encourage parent participation in Early Head Start Parent Committee meetings, group socializations, and other events or trainings.
  • Coordinate transition plans for children moving to early childhood programs for ages 3‑5.
  • Participate in Children’s Place quality assurance initiatives as needed to improve service quality and ensure compliance with licensing, accreditation, and contractual standards.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to meet new funding requirements or as assigned by the Program Manager.
Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Home Visitor or Illinois Gateways Early Childhood Education credential (Level 3 or higher) required.
  • Approved user status of Parents as Teachers Foundation 1 and 2, with completion of the Pathway to Professional Development Plan for home‑based staff within 12 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with young children and families; preferred experience with community‑based early childhood programs.
  • Experience with persons living with chronic illness and families living in poverty is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Early Head Start performance standards is preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) written and verbal communication skills preferred.

Physical Demands
