Compensation and Eligibility
  • Annual salary range for : $22,005 - $43,583 (Based on 195/196 day contract). Initial placement on the salary schedule is based on education and contracted licensed experience.
  • Eligible to receive a specialty stipend of $1,192 for the  school year.
  • As a licensed employee, eligible to receive a specialty stipend of $2,000 if certified multilingual in Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian, American Sign Language, or Russian. Must pass a standardized proficiency test.
Responsibilities
  • Instruct students with individualized special needs to develop academic, interpersonal, self-management, and daily living skills (e.g., toileting / hygiene) through a defined course of study.
  • Manage classroom and individual student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Prepare teaching materials and reports (e.g., IEPs, FBA, BIPs, grades, attendance, anecdotal records, progress reports) for implementing lesson plans and documenting progress.
  • Assess students for eligibility into special education.
  • Assess students' social and academic needs to evaluate learning and support requirements, placement, and program success.
  • Collaborate with school personnel and community agencies to maximize student outcomes, develop solutions, and plan curriculum.
  • Direct instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student aides to support the program and student needs.
  • Adapt lessons to implement IEP goals and meet student needs.
  • Advise parents/guardians of progress to support expectations and home-based improvement goals.
  • Facilitate special education meetings for assigned students with or suspected of having disabilities.
  • Ensure required timelines, processes, procedures, documentation, and student records comply with district policy and state law.
  • Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) for safety and policy compliance.
  • Maintain student confidentiality in verbal, written, electronic, and filing/organizational practices.
  • Attend promptly and regularly.
  • Administer medication, first aid, and/or health care as required to monitor student health conditions.
  • Assist other personnel as needed to support work activities.
  • Participate in meetings (e.g., parent conferences, in-service trainings, site meetings) to share information and meet credential requirements.
  • Knowledge of current federal and state laws pertaining to special education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Skills to motivate students, communicate with diverse backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance, and address health care needs.
  • Knowledge of all special education eligibilities (learning, severe, communication, visually and/or physically handicapped), age-appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, and education code.
  • Ability to stand/walk for prolonged periods; organize and facilitate meetings; maintain records; collaborate with students, parents, and staff; and meet scheduling deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively under stress. Model appropriate school behavior.
  • Physical abilities include lifting/carrying/transferring immobile students, physical interventions as needed, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing, and visual acuity/depth perception/color vision.
Qualifications
  • Teaching Credential for Special Education at the appropriate level;
    No Child Left Behind Highly Qualified status;
    First aid/CPR;
    Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
  • State of Oregon Teaching License with Special Education PK-12 endorsement and current First Aid Card.
  • Additional notes:
    East Gresham Elementary School, 80 Contract days, Temporary Contract  School Year, 1.00 FTE.
