Overview

Description:

To facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing the contracting district’s approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students; creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals for students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) as required by the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).

Organization

Educational Service Unit #3 is seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (Itinerant) to support students from birth through age 21 across partnering school districts. This role provides direct and consultative services aligned to each student’s IEP or IFSP, with a strong focus on access to the general education environment, individualized instruction, and student growth in language, academic, and social-emotional skills.

The ideal candidate brings expertise in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education, communication modalities, and amplification technology, along with strong collaboration and organizational skills. Salary and benefits:
Competitive benefits package includes employer paid health and dental and a $11,478.50 health insurance stipend in addition to the teacher salary.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing the contracting district’s approved curriculum.
  • Document teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; address specific educational needs of individual students.
  • Create a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Provide feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals for students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing as required by the student’s IEP and IFSP.
  • Provide direct and consultative services aligned to each student’s IEP/IFSP with emphasis on access to the general education environment and language development.
  • Collaborate with families, educators, and others across multiple sites to support student growth in language, academic, and social-emotional skills.
Qualifications
  • Nebraska State Teacher Certification as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing teacher.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education with an endorsement applicable to the teaching assignment.
  • No history of child abuse or negligence, and able to successfully pass required background checks.
  • Regular and dependable in-person attendance is required and is considered a condition of employment. The assigned duties of this position may allow consideration of occasional/infrequent remote work with the approval of the supervisor. Remote work is subject to the remote work guidelines and conditions outlined in the job description. The supervisor may withdraw the remote work option at any time.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Understands and complies with the ESU #3 Board of Education Personnel Policies and Employee Handbook.
  • Provides comprehensive services for children ages Birth-21 who are DHH within each contracting school district, promoting access to the general education setting to the fullest extent possible.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of DHH education, including current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, differentiated instruction, communication modalities including sign language and listening and spoken language, and amplification technologies.
