Job Description
The Special Programs Attendance Support Specialist plays a vital role in supporting Ohio Digital Learning School’s (ODLS) mission to reduce chronic absenteeism and improve student engagement, with a focus on special population students including special education and at-risk learners. This position emphasizes proactive outreach, relationship-building, and individualized support to help students and families overcome barriers to attendance. By collaborating with school staff, families, and community partners, the Attendance Support Specialist helps ensure that students have the tools, resources, and encouragement they need to attend consistently and succeed in the online learning environment.
This position offers a base salary of $40,000 plus the eligibility of a performance bonus.

The Special Programs Attendance Support Specialist plays a vital role in supporting Ohio Digital Learning School’s (ODLS) mission to reduce chronic absenteeism and improve student engagement, with a focus on special population students including special education and at-risk learners. This position emphasizes proactive outreach, relationship-building, and individualized support to help students and families overcome barriers to attendance. By collaborating with school staff, families, and community partners, the Attendance Support Specialist helps ensure that students have the tools, resources, and encouragement they need to attend consistently and succeed in the online learning environment.
This is a full-time position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school.
Essential FunctionsReasonable accommodations, as may be required by law, will be provided to individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
- Monitor and track daily student attendance using the Learning Management System (LMS) and Student Information System (SIS).
- Identify students demonstrating patterns of absenteeism, with a focus on special education and at-risk populations.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, intervention specialists, and administrators to design and implement individualized attendance support plans.
- Proactively reach out to students and families to provide encouragement, resources, and problem-solving support related to attendance barriers (technology issues, scheduling, family needs, etc.).
- Support families in understanding attendance expectations, Ohio House Bill 410 requirements, and the importance of regular engagement in virtual learning.
- Participate in attendance conferences and intervention meetings, contributing strategies to re-engage students.
- Document all communications, interventions, and outcomes accurately in student records.
- Assist with the preparation of attendance-related reports for ODLS leadership and state requirements.
- Contribute to school wide initiatives that promote a culture of consistent attendance, engagement, and belonging.
- Ensure all attendance support practices align with ODLS policies, procedures, and applicable state regulations.
