Overview

Academic Coaches must be available to work approximately 10 hours per week throughout Spring and Fall semesters. Shifts are generally in-person at the UAA Consortium Library Sunday through Friday between 10am to 6pm. An individual shift is typically at least 2 hours long. ACP Hours vary during summer semester and school breaks. Academic Coaches are not expected to work during finals week.

Hours are subject to change.

Responsibilities
  • Provide personalized interactions to assist students in navigating their educational goals.
  • Help students own their learning by supporting time management, software use, study skills, stress management, test-taking strategies, organizational skills, and other academic success skills.
  • Work with students in-person (drop-in and by appointment) and online (by appointment only).
  • Contribute to workshops and development of tips sheets and other student resources; lead projects as needed (e.g., creating handouts and organizing documents).
  • Collaborate with The Learning Commons to promote student success services (tutoring, writing support, coaching, open study spaces, and more).
Minimum Qualifications

Required

Education and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in at least 6 credits at UAA and in good academic standing
  • Must have completed a minimum of 15 credits
  • Minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn UAA systems and software platforms such as Blackboard, Google Suite, Excel, Microsoft Word, EAB Navigate, and more
Preferred Qualifications
  • Customer service experience
  • One year of work or volunteer experience, particularly in a university setting
Position Details

This position is located at the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. This is a Student Assistant 2 position, part-time, up to 20 hours a week with starting pay $17.19 per hour.

Policies and Compliance

Throughout the semester, students are responsible for notifying the Academic Coach hiring manager if they drop classes and enroll in fewer than 6 credits. Per Board of Regents policy, student employment should not exceed 20 hours per week during a semester or 40 hours per week between semesters or during summer sessions. Students must disclose to the hiring manager if they are employed in any other student positions.
