Job SummaryWhat are we looking for? RISD Continuing Education seeks an inspired art educator to support the growth of teens as part of our online youth program. The ideal candidate has experience in art education and guides students with empathy. Applicants should be prepared to teach online to a diverse group of students from varied abilities and experiences. We welcome candidates whose teaching addresses historically underrepresented communities.
Howdoes this role impact our students?
As a youth programs instructor, you will guide teens toward aspiring career paths through problem-solving in art and design. The program emphasizes design thinking, communication, and creation. Students will look to you for guidance while navigating daily prompts and assignments. By the end of the course, students will have identified new or refined academic and career goals with your help.
What does this position offer you?We support educators with resources to build courses they are excited to teach. You will receive personalized support from our program manager to enhance your teaching and access ongoing instructor support as you prepare and deliver online courses.
What are we teaching?We are seeking an instructor available to teach Start Advertising and Marketing through online delivery. The successful candidate will have a strong background in the deliverables described in the course description. The current course description is as follows:
Graphic design and marketing skills are the key to taking a business idea from concept to market. Whether you're launching your own product or a client’s new business, you can do so with practical tools and strategies. Begin with customer and market research to inform your idea. Create mockups of your product and promotional materials for digital formats. Learn to leverage popular social media platforms to reach and engage your target audience.
When you and your client are ready for launch, you will be prepared with a memorable visual identity backed by an effective campaign.
Learning outcomes
- Create a visual identity for a brand or product.
- Design mockups of products or brand merchandise.
- Develop a marketing campaign using accessible media such as emails and social media.
- BS, BFA or Art/Design Major required
- Demonstrated expertise in marketing and advertising
- Ability to convey complex art and design concepts to students with varied skills in a condensed time frame
- Accept and act upon constructive feedback from course evaluations by students and staff
- Ability to develop and implement diverse teaching for learners from varied educational backgrounds and expectations
- Ability to meet RISD technology requirements
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience teaching K-12 in art and design
- Experience teaching online
- Interest in career planning and preparation for teens
- Masters degree
- Teaching certification
- Knowledge and understanding of early to mid childhood learner principles and respect for students
