Assistant Research Professor of Anthropology

Position Overview

The Department of Anthropology at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full‑time Assistant Research Professor position. This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation beyond the term will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.

Work with Dr. Mary Shenk on projects involving the study of marriage, fertility, mortality, parental investment, and inequality both in South Asia and cross‑culturally.

• Conduct complex literature reviews, including finding and organizing theoretical, historical, and ethnographic reference materials.
• Code cross‑cultural datasets including primary ethnographic materials.
• Code qualitative interview data. Familiarity with evolutionary theoretical approaches and/or foundational texts in anthropology and related fields would be useful.

Applicants must have completed a PhD by the time of appointment.
