Shining Students Tutoring is hiring a part-time, in-person Academic Tutor (K–8) to work with elementary and middle school students in Math and English Language Arts (ELA). This role is ideal for educators who enjoy working with younger learners and are seeking consistent evening hours, structured training, and a supportive team environment.

ABOUT SHINING STUDENTS TUTORINGShining Students Tutoring is a locally owned, home-based tutoring business committed to fostering strong relationships, delivering personalized instruction, and maintaining a supportive team environment. Our tutors strengthen foundational skills while supporting students’ current coursework, helping students build confidence, improve comprehension, and achieve academic success.
POSITION DETAILSTutors in this role support K–8 students in both Math and ELA through a combination of homework assistance, skill remediation, and enrichment. The position begins with a training and probationary period, during which tutors work in an assistive capacity. Based on readiness, demonstrated instructional skill, and caseload needs, tutors will transition into independently planned and led sessions. Tutors are expected to remain with assigned students through the school year to provide consistency and continuity.
HOURSAND SCHEDULE
In-person tutoring sessions are held:
- Monday–Thursday: 3:00–9:30 PM
- Sunday: 1:00–9:00 PM
Tutors are expected to commit to 1–2 weekday evenings. Weekly hours are flexible and determined collaboratively based on availability and student needs.
COMPENSATIONDuring the training and probationary period, tutors earn $20–$25 per hour while working in an assistive capacity. Tutors who demonstrate readiness to independently plan and lead lessons will transition to independently run sessions and earn $25–$35 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
REQUIREMENTS- Bachelor’s degree (or currently in student teaching)
- Minimum of one year of K–8 education or tutoring experience
- Ability to tutor Math and ELA across grades K–8
- Comfortable using Chrome, Google Workspace, and Zoom
- Reliable transportation to Huntley, IL
- Two to three professional references
- Background in reading intervention, phonics instruction, and writing support
- Familiarity with One Note, Schoology, Power School, or Canvas
