Position Summary:
Provide educational instruction through a variety of accepted teaching techniques while employing behavior management strategies that will ensure the effective and efficient implementation of assigned individual students’ IEPs.
Salary Range: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 - Based on Experience & Certification!
Primary responsibilities:
Provide instruction to assigned students in classes of expertise as assignedPrepare lesson plans suitable to the environment, age group and class mix on the assigned subject area(s)Assist students individually where necessary; serve as a champion and advocate for each student taking a vested interest in the success of each student’s learning, and social and emotional growthRemain apprised of the latest and emerging, most widely accepted teaching techniques, in an effort to meet the needs of emotionally and behaviorally challenged students within a residential settingProvide assessments of progress to academic goalsContinually look for new approaches to instruction, class content and be responsive to students’ needsCollaborate with internal staff and communicate with students, coworkers, and leaders in a respectful and professional manner; lead by example remaining supportive of the Nexus mission, methods and valuesCreate a classroom climate that is positive and supportive for both learning and treatment
Establish and maintain appropriate relationships with students and emphasize student responsibility in the educational programRecognize student achievement and provide appropriate reinforcement, acknowledgement and recognition, while redirecting student behavior opportunities and maintaining appropriate boundariesCommunicate students’ academic and behavioral successes and failures through both written and verbal communication to both fellow educational staff and treatment team staffIncorporate cultural diversity into all aspects of educational programming and instruction; attend trainings and other educational opportunities to become better informed and respectful of other culturesProvide crisis intervention within the classroom setting and apply TCI or approved de-escalation techniques appropriate to the situation at handIn cooperation with other members of the school team, assess educational needs and the progress of assigned students
Develop or assist in developing IEPs, test ability levels and coordinate meetings with other members of the IEP team where appropriateEnsure confidentiality regarding students is in compliance with all licensing agencies, company policy, Joint Commission, and HIPPA guidelinesAttend faculty/staff meetings, IEP staffings, and training sessions as required
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and eligible for a conditional certification in general scienceMinimum of two (2) years previous teaching experienceExperience working with students from underserved communities for two (2) or more yearsMinimum of 21 years of ageValid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Nexus Home Office driving record requirementsPreferred Education and Experience:
Five years (5) of successful science teaching experienceMaster's in science and/or prior teacher experience preferredMaryland Advanced Professional Certificate is preferredActive teacher’s licensure/certification specialization in the areas of EBD, LD, SED and TMHIdeal candidates have & showcase:
Ability to influence and motivate othersAbility to persist in the face of challengesA deep commitment to, passion for, working with children and familiesKnowledge of federal laws protecting the educational services for students with disabilitiesKnowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty to which assignedKnowledge of school's program of studies related to assignments and mission, goals, and organization is preferredExcellent oral and written…
