This position within the WI Department of Public Instruction provides statewide leadership, supervision, coordination, and consultation related to the improvement of elementary and secondary agriculture, food, and natural resources education (AFNR) and contemporary career and technical education (CTE) programs. This includes program and professional development and improvement activities conducted with (1) teachers, administrators and others from Local Education Agencies (LEAs), Cooperative Educational Services Agencies (CESAs), Wisconsin Technical College (WTC) districts, and universities;

(2) related state, regional, and national career and technical education organizations; (3) the business community, and (4) the FFA career and technical student organization.

Responsibilities include providing leadership and technical assistance in the development, implementation, and evaluation of agriculture education curriculum and student assessment; in-service and pre-service professional development for educators; DPI liaison with related state agencies and associations; program improvement “policy” and “best practices” development; provision of direct consultation to local school districts and teacher training institutions; monitoring of Career and Technical education programs, equity, diversity and civil rights compliance, and implementation of both state and federal laws/regulations affecting career and technical education.

The consultant will contribute to the mission, strategic plan, specific projects, accountability, and the success of the Career and Technical Education Section, the division, the bureau, and the department.

This position is in the Education Consultant classification. Depending on qualifications, the salary will be between $ per hour (approximately $72,800 – $100,880 per year). For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at time of hire. This position is in pay schedule 13, range 02. A one-year probationary period will be required.

Remote Work: This position allows for up to 100% remote work within the State of Wisconsin, with the expectation that the employee maintains secure, high-speed internet access. Remote work from neighboring states may be approved only in very rare and limited circumstances. Please note that remote work arrangements may be rescinded at any time based on business needs, and employees may occasionally be required to report to a Wisconsin work location on short notice.

Travel and

Hours:

In-state travel is expected to occur about once per month. Out-of-state travel is expected to occur approximately twice per year. Occasional evening and weekend hours for WI FFA events are expected (about 15 hours/month).

Headquarters: The position is headquartered at 201 W. Washington Ave. in Madison, WI, and employees are required to report there on their first day of employment. The incumbent will be expected to attend monthly in-person meetings for collaboration and connection. In addition, the employee may need to report to their headquarter location as operational needs require. Reimbursement for traveling to or from the employee’s headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.).

Pre-hire Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire.

Legal Authorization: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., without DPI sponsorship). The Department of Public Instruction does not sponsor visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.
