Position: Academic Content Specialist (Remote)Virtual, USA

Academic Content Specialist for the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC) is a full-time employment position reporting to the Director of Learning Solutions. The Academic Content Specialist is responsible for editing, building, and maintaining all college Course Guides/Syllabi and Learning Management System (LMS) course shells in accordance with approved templates, as well as accessibility, Quality Matters, and other compliance standards. The Academic Content Specialist manages the curriculum feedback ticketing system, reviewing and processing all issues and collaborating with other stakeholders as necessary.

The Academic Content Specialist collaborates with Faculty Subject Matter Experts and Assessment Specialists, serving as a consultant on LMS capabilities and other content managing and housing systems. They may be asked to build and collaborate on the format of non-standard courses and will be expected to work with code. The Academic Content Specialist interacts with Course Leads, Full-Time Faculty, Associate Faculty, and course development teams to ensure consistency and innovation within the online classroom.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Creates and updates course shells in the LMS for developments, revisions, and required changes in accordance with universal design standards by utilizing creativity, knowledge and expertise about UAGC's catalog of courses. This includes independently reviewing requests for support, consulting with and mentoring faculty with suggestions for resolutions to needs within courses, and effectively implementing solutions to ensure student success in courses.
  • Consults on the capabilities of the LMS and other technical platforms during course development process, as needed to collaborates with appropriate stakeholders on non-standard LMS course builds. This requires having knowledge and expertise of learning in order to provide appropriate suggestions and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
  • Independently manages the curriculum feedback ticketing system and recommends and determines the appropriate steps necessary for resolution to bring submissions from start to completion while ensuring UAGC's portfolio of courses is up to date.
  • Utilizes knowledge and expertise of the UAGC Style Guide to provide needed edits for clarity, consistency, and formatting within the UAGC course catalog to ensure a seamless learning experience for students.
  • Certified in the most up-to-date edition of the Quality Matters (QM) standards in order to be able to review content for alignment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • HTML/coding experience.
  • Degree or certification in educational technology, instructional design, or other related field.
  • Experience in editing/proofreading in a professional or academic setting.
  • Highly skilled with communicating with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to report on data to demonstrate completion of a high volume of independent projects.
  • Ensures adherence to the most up to date applicable provisions of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2, and accessibility standards as defined by
  • Independent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Experience with the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver) and/or Learning Management System administration.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills; ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in all communications.
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule, and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, changing environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Three or more years of experience in education or other related professional setting.
