Job Summary
Provides high quality physics instruction. Participates in curriculum development, educational assessments, and course alignments; maintains classrooms and labs in compliance with safety requirements and reports any lab/field equipment or infrastructure maintenance needs. Works with the dean and colleagues to improve student learning experiences.
Essential Duties
* Instructs students in a classroom, lab, online, learning center or other setting (such as field sites) as appropriate.
* Teaches courses with a primary focus on physics.
* Creates a learning environment for students inclusive of diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds.
* Convenes classes, labs, and examinations on time and as scheduled.
* Provides opportunities for course-related student interactions before or after class, virtually, in person, or through office hours where facilities and schedules permit.
* Adheres to all College polices, practices, and timelines related to evaluation and grading.
* Structures classes and curriculum to correspond with the overall program objectives; prepares clear objectives for students each course. Maintains and revises curriculum to maintain currency.
* Prepares, distributes, and utilizes instructional support materials as appropriate.
* Incorporates the latest classroom technology, when available and appropriate, into instructional activities.
* Participates in, and collects data for, educational assessment as directed by the department, division, and College.
* Ensures and emphasizes safe working and classroom conditions and practices. Provides for the safety of student and staff and the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate. Reports any lab equipment or infrastructure maintenance needs.
* Understands and abides by College policies and regulations and other policies, procedures and materials as required or directed.
* Collaborates with faculty and staff from other departments and divisions to promote communication, coordinate programs, and support student success.
* Prepares clear learning outcomes for each course and informs students of learning outcomes in a course syllabus.
* Participates in college service and activities outside direct instruction, such as registration, curriculum development, advising, strategic planning, and educational assessment.
* Supports student recruitment, placement, and retention.
* Keeps professionally current by participating in professional development and other activities; maintains current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation.
* Maintains active liaison with high schools, universities, business and industry or external agencies and assist the dean with program advisory committees as appropriate.
* Attends division, department, and committee meetings and in-service programs.
Additional Duties

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Computer Skills, etc.)
* Master's degree in physics, astronomy, or related field OR a master's degree and 24 graduate credits in physics, astronomy, or related field
* Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching practices and service activities
Preferred Qualifications
* Teaching experience at the community college level
* Knowledge of open educational resources (OER) materials and experience utilizing OER materials in class.

* Ability to work evenings and a flexible schedule as needed
* Ability to teach online courses and utilize necessary technology
* Ability to manage and engage students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels in the classroom, laboratory, and field environment
* Ability to use high impact teaching practices in a variety of courses.
* Ability to coordinate and budget for lab purchases and instructional supply needs
* Ability to manage student outcomes related to all classes taught
* Ability to teach courses in accordance with college catalog, schedule of classes, course outlines, course syllabi, and any departmental guidelines
* Knowledge of appropriate teaching methods and documentation
* Knowledge of open educational resources (OER) materials and experience utilizing OER materials in class.
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in both a classroom/lab and field setting, but online instruction may be involved as needed.
