Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Competitive Chess Coach - Part-Time, gt.school (Remote) - $37,500/year USD

You did not earn years of serious chess credibility to cover the fundamentals. You want students who engage, challenge you, and return eager for more. You want to develop champions. If that describes you, this role will be a strong fit.

GT School serves gifted K–8 students seeking high‑stakes learning, not casual enrichment. This position is designed to transform talented players into self‑assured competitors who deliver when it matters. You will facilitate live virtual workshops, provide tournament‑oriented coaching, and develop reusable instructional materials that elevate standards across GT Anywhere and GT campuses.

This is not a conventional chess tutoring position. GT recruits accomplished competitors, not general instructors. You will engage with driven students, well‑defined skill tiers, and concrete objectives. Strong performance in this role is reflected in rating improvements, sharper decision‑making under timed conditions, and tournament outcomes families value.

If you bring elite chess credentials, can deliver clear instruction on camera, and are committed to mentoring the next wave of champions, we encourage you to apply.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Deliver 2–4 live virtual domain workshops each week (60–90 minutes) covering advanced strategy, tactical patterns, and competitive play
  • Evaluate individual student skill levels and adjust instruction to ensure each session is challenging, engaging, and builds confidence
  • Prepare students for upcoming tournaments using mock matches, game analysis, and tailored development plans
  • Monitor student progress relative to benchmarks and leverage game data to address the most impactful skill gaps
  • Develop reusable lesson frameworks, puzzle sets, and strategic resources that other specialists can implement reliably
What You Won’t Be Doing
  • Conduct casual introductory lessons unrelated to competitive development
  • Invest time in administrative meetings or navigate slow, multilayered processes
  • Deliver standardized, undifferentiated coaching that disregards a student's objectives and tournament schedule
  • Operate without evidence of effectiveness—measurable results and growth are central

  • Documented elite chess achievement (FIDE title, national/state ranking, high rating, or significant tournament victory)
  • Minimum 6 months of teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience with demonstrable examples of student progress
  • Capability to explain advanced concepts in accessible language that gifted K–8 students can implement in their games
  • Strong on‑camera presence and proficiency in facilitating dynamic sessions via video
  • Availability to commit 5–10 hours per week
  • Dependable internet connection and professional video equipment appropriate for live teaching
  • Willingness to submit credentials or a portfolio for verification purposes
