Pay Range

Job Description

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at Syracuse University seeks a part‑time instructor of Spanish to teach one 3‑credit course in upper‑level Spanish (SPA 322) in the Spring 2026 semester, which begins on January 12, 2026 (appointment begins on January 5, 2026).

SPA 322 (Introduction to Latin American Literature); 3 credits
Cross‑listed with LAS 302
Focus: modern Latin American literature using new methods of study, primarily Cultural Semiotics.

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per‑credit‑rate history within the hiring department. All positions and offers are subject to funding availability and enrollment.

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree required.
  • Native or near‑native fluency required.
  • Experience in university‑level teaching preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and/or update a class syllabus.
  • Order the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
  • Prepare lectures, projects, and other student assignments.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
  • Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
  • Meet all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you must exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or obtain a substitute, and notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and plan to cover the class.
  • Work with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
  • Submit completed mid‑semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Complete all other course‑related duties as outlined by your department’s policies for part‑time instructors.
  • Build a positive rapport with the students and faculty.
