Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) is seeking qualified applicants for an adjunct teaching position in the area of Human Services for the Fall 2026 term.
Adjunct instructors are compensated $975 per credit hour. Courses may be delivered in face‑to‑face and/or online formats, depending on adjunct instructor availability. Face‑to‑face from the Scottsbluff, Nebraska campus preferred. Remote work may be considered.
Course Assignments- Intro to Counseling
Skills:
Theories & Techniques (HUSR-2000; 3 credit hours) – This course is an introduction to the interviewing, listening, and planning skills required of human service workers, including substance abuse providers. Students are introduced to counseling theories and schools of thought, combined with a brief presentation of the techniques used by some of the theorists. - Clinical Treatment Issues (HUSR-2530; 3 credit hours) – Students in this course will receive instruction on the treatment issues specific to substance use disorders including the role of denial, resistance, minimization, family dynamics, relapse, cross‑addiction, co‑occurring disorders, spirituality, and the influence of self‑help groups. There is a review of the drugs of misuse and their effects. The unique treatment needs of individuals based on gender, culture, lifestyle, and past experiences, including trauma, will also be discussed.

- Demonstrates thorough, accurate knowledge of the field and discipline.
- Connects subject matter with related fields.
- Stays current in subject matter through professional development, i.e.. membership in professional organizations; attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops; participating in webinars; completing courses, maintaining professional licensure, etc.
- Plans, organizes, and employs instruction in ways that maximizes student learning and engagement including but not limited to strategies that communicate subject matter to students.
- Modifies, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students’ needs.
- Employs available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, interactive technology, when appropriate.
- Encourages the development of communication skills and higher order critical thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
- Aligns activities with program and general education goals, course objectives, and student learning outcomes.
- Provides feedback regarding grades/progress to students in a timely fashion.
- Assigns reasonable course activities in terms of time required for student completion.
- Publishes student learning outcomes and course objectives as outlined in the master syllabi.
- Establishes and explains methods that measure student progress toward learning objectives.
- Provides students with clear information on how they will be assessed and graded.
- Evaluates student performance consistently in accordance with the evaluation section in the course syllabus.
- Maintains accurate, updated records of student progress in the institution’s learning management system.
- Conducts course, program, and general education assessments.
- Prepares, distributes, and submits syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional practices to the appropriate Division Chair and Educational Services.
- Maintains confidentiality of student information using FERPA guidelines.
- Exercises stewardship of college facilities and materials.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to student needs and circumstances and complies with requested/suggested accommodations.
- Uses the required WNCC learning management system.
- Reports attendance, mid‑term, and final grade rosters to financial aid and the registrar each term according to established deadlines.
- Complies with the philosophy, policies, regulations, procedures, and announcements of the College as set forth in the Board Policy Manual, College Catalog, Student Handbook, Employee Handbook, and Adjunct Instructor Handbook.
