The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) invites applications for a full‑time 12‑month Clinical Instructor/Athletic Trainer in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science. The department offers undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science and Physical Education, and graduate degrees in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, and Sport Management. The department values inclusive pedagogy and the UCA Center for Excellence in Teaching and Academic Leadership is an available resource to assist faculty to thrive professionally and personally.
Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will teach courses in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science, serve on department, college, university committees, and provide medical coverage by assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with football and helping with off‑season sports.
Academic Responsibilities- 1–2 sections of Anatomical Kinesiology or related course (undergraduate level)
- 2–3 sections of Athletic Training Clinical Courses (graduate level)
- Oversight of 20–25 clinical hours/week per student (1–4 students)
- Twice weekly instructional sessions
- Proficiency exam administration and validation
Primary Sport:
Football (105–110 student athletes)
The fall season represents the most intensive period, with daily medical operations and comprehensive practice and game coverage.
- Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with all aspects of football sports medicine coverage
- Provide daily injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return‑to‑play management
- Cover all practices, home and away games
- Manage taping, hydration, emergency preparedness, and documentation
- Coordinate communication with coaching staff, team physicians, and strength & conditioning
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and handle athletic training equipment
