The Associate Director is a key leader within the Student Success Center ( SSC ), providing strategic oversight for non- STEM academic support programs that promote undergraduate student success, persistence, and degree completion at UT Dallas. This role combines leadership, program innovation, and data-informed decision-making to enhance academic support services across campus.
The Associate Director supervises professional staff and student leaders, collaborates with faculty and academic partners, and leads initiatives that remove barriers to student success. Responsibilities include overseeing core SSC programs, guiding assessment and long-range planning, and directing a cohesive marketing strategy for SSC services. This position also contributes to policy development within the Office of Undergraduate Education and supports grant-funded and innovative programming to strengthen student outcomes.
This role will oversee the following Student Success Center programs:
Academic Success Coaching program, the social media/marketing student team, the Communication Lab, Writing Center, Institute of Peer Education, and Success Workshops. The Associate Director will oversee internal operations for the SSC, all outreach and new initiatives the SSC takes on, such as partnerships with Athletics, Fraternity and Sorority Life, First Generation student programming, and specific school ( ECS , NSM ) tutoring in their spaces.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 5-7 years related professional experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
Master’s degree; 5-7 years in higher education programming, supervisory position
Required skills and abilities –
- Ability to work with, relate to, and communicate effectively with students.
- Analyze and review program trends and make adjustments in real time.
- Accept feedback from both student leaders and professional staff – be able to adjust accordingly.
- Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, staff and other departments and/or external constituencies on a day-to-day programmatic, operational, and administrative and fiscal issues.
- Oversee all non- STEM programming stepping into the program manager role as needed due to staff vacancies.
- Connect students to proper resources at UTD inside and outside of the Office of Undergraduate Education.
- Serve on campus committees and working groups as needed.
- Prepare clear, concise and complete reports and other written material.
- Make effective presentations.
This position requires high-quality written and verbal communication skills. This position should possess excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to work with people from different cultures and backgrounds. A successful candidate is a problem solver who can quickly and consistently facilitate solutions. This position is eligible for limited remote work opportunities after training is complete.
Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise full-time professional staff through leadership development, program development, and annual evaluations.
- Collaborate with the SSC Leadership Team and other full-time staff as needed for Student Success Center programming
- Strategically design interventions to remove barriers for students to attend SSC programs. Evaluate the impact the SSC has on student academic confidence and performance through creating and conducting student surveys and evaluating appointment data.
- Design and manage virtual spaces for virtual labs and appointments.
- Manage physical space for on-campus appointments and workshops.
- Design content-specific training for staff and student employees.
- Work with academic deans to design opportunities to build success programs in each school.
