Coordinator of Student Engagement

Summary/objective:
The Coordinator of Student Engagement at Mount Saint Mary College is a full-time, professional administrative staff member responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating activities that advance institutional priorities. This role involves developing programs and services that foster a sense of community, belonging, and leadership development among students. This position makes decisions about how programs are designed, how resources are used, how student leaders are supported, and how daily operations run.
The role works with campus leadership to identify needs, develop solutions, and carry out initiatives that help students succeed and support the College's goals.
Essential functions

* Independently design, implement, and evaluate student engagement initiatives, determining program structure, delivery methods, resource allocation, and assessment metrics.
* Advise student clubs and organizations by providing guidance and resources for their initiatives and events.
* Plan and facilitate the annual Student Leader & Club Awards event.
Develop leadership training programs that strengthen student skills and promote a positive campus culture.
* Coordinate campus-wide engagement programs, including involvement fairs, conferences, workshops, retreats, and seminars.
* Consult with faculty, staff, and administrators to assess institutional needs and develop strategic programming recommendations.
* Guide students in connecting with campus resources, activities, and volunteer opportunities.
* Review participation data and program results, interpret findings, and recommend improvements to programs, resource use, and planning.
* Serve as liaison between student organizations and administration to facilitate communication and collaboration.
* Resolve complex student engagement issues requiring judgment and discretion.
Represent the department on institutional committees and planning groups.
* Recommend new initiatives aligned with strategic priorities.
* Lead student workshops and programs on topics including time management, wellness, belonging, and career readiness.
* Manage social media and communications promoting programs, initiatives, and campus resources.
* Promote campus traditions and school spirit initiatives.
* Support recruitment, training, and supervision of student employees and volunteers.
Collaborate with departments across campus to support student development.
* Develop and manage budgets for engagement initiatives and recommend funding allocations.
* Coordinate operations related to the MSMC Shuttle Service.
* Support planning and delivery of New and Transfer Student Orientation programs.
Oversee the Student Leadership & Service Cohort and coordinate volunteer opportunities.
* Serve as primary liaison to the Downtown Newburgh Alliance.
* Maintain the MSMC Discount Program database and coordinate partnership initiatives.
* Stay informed on best practices and emerging trends in student engagement and leadership development.
Supervisory responsibilities
Supervises student employees, student leaders, and volunteers involved in engagement programs by training them, setting schedules, assigning tasks, checking their work, and giving feedback.
Work environment
* Office Setting:
Cubicles, open desks, or private offices with access to necessary tools like computers, phones, and office supplies.
* Remote Setting:
Working from home or another location with access to virtual communication platforms and necessary technology.

* Sitting:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or workstation.
* Typing/Computer Use:
Frequent use of a computer keyboard and mouse.
* Vision Requirements:
Ability to read and view screens for extended periods.
* Speaking/Hearing:
Regular communication with coworkers and clients in person, over the phone, or via video calls.
* Lifting/Carrying:
Occasionally lifting or moving items up to 10-15 pounds, such as office supplies, laptops, or documents.
* Reaching/Bending:
Periodic reaching for or bending to access files, supplies, or equipment.
* Mobility:
Walking short distances within the office or to meeting rooms.
Travel required
Some weekend and late-night responsibilities required. Examples include: chaperoning late-night large-scale programming, chaperoning off-campus trips, participating in Admission & Student Engagement Events such as Open Houses, Accepted Students Day, and Family Day.
Required education and experience
* Bachelor's degree in education, business, project management, psychology, or a related field.
* Previous experience in student engagement, student activities, or a related role in a higher education setting
* Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and programs simultaneously.
