PCC Math Department peer mentoring program

The PCC Math Department peer mentoring program places PCC students as mentors in math classes to support class members' learning and help them navigate barriers to college success. Peer mentors support students in time management, accessing campus resources and content - among other things - both during class and outside of class.

PCC Math Peer Mentor Coordinator

The PCC Math Peer Mentor Coordinator designs, coordinates, and oversees the Math Peer Mentorship Program across multiple math courses and academic terms, while managing program timelines. The coordinator provides goal‑setting, coaching, and professional development support for peer mentors with individual academic and career goals. The coordinator supports math peer mentors drawn from PCC’s diverse student body, centering equity, respect, and inclusion in all aspects of recruitment, training, and support.

PCC currently limits employment to individuals residing in Oregon and Washington. This position is a full‑time Classified role. Campus location will be determined at the time of offer. Remote work can be permitted up to 20% per week.

What You’ll Do and Who We Are Looking For

Peer Mentor Coordinator Position Description

The coordinator leads large‑scale and ongoing recruitment, hiring, and onboarding. (Current scale is 25‑40 mentors per term, with 10‑20 new mentors brought in each term. This varies based on program growth goals and budget constraints). The work includes:

  • Gathering mentor recommendations from math instructors
  • Recruiting mentors
  • Conducting informational interviews
  • Making hiring and retention recommendations to supervisor
  • Matching mentors to math courses and instructors (based on availability, course needs, and mentor strengths)
    • Facilitating initial and ongoing meetings between mentors placed with instructors
    • Responding to last‑minute placement changes
  • Designing and facilitating mentor orientation, training, and professional development for the group of current mentors
  • Orienting mentors to PCC employment processes (Workday, I‑9s, timesheets)
  • Scheduling and planning all meetings and training sessions in multiple modalities

Coordination and support includes:

  • Supporting mentors through regular check‑ins and meetings
    • Collaborating with lead mentors
    • Providing individualized coaching
  • Maintaining communication with instructors
  • Serving as the primary liaison between mentors and administrative systems
