ESOL instructor; PT

The PT ESOL Instructor will teach 1 beginner-level ESOL class and 1 advanced beginner-level ESOL class running through early June 2026. Classes meet Mondays-Wednesdays from 9 am - 1 pm. Classes are in-person and instructors will be paid for prep and administrative time, in addition to class hours. Students will be assessed using BEST Plus, and the courses will seek to improve participants' English language skills and support them in building confidence speaking English so that they feel better able to navigate the education systems, government offices, employer interactions, and other settings that can affect the immigrant experience.

This position is expected to be 20-25 hrs/week, including approximately 15 hrs/week of in-person availability Mondays-Wednesdays from 8:30 am - 1:30 pm and 5-10 hours/week of prep and administrative time (which typically can be done at home/remotely).

The PT ESOL Teacher will work closely with the Adult Education Program Coordinator to ensure prospective students are at an appropriate level for the class, and with their supervisor to ensure the courses are interactive, engaging, and aligned to the interests of participating students.

• Planning, leading, and documenting interactive and engaging lessons
• Drafting lesson plans adapted from the We Speak NYC curriculum
• Monitoring student progress and attendance
• Reflecting on course successes and areas for growth and documenting these learnings
• Providing occasional administrative support to the program, as needed

• Availability Mondays-Wednesdays from 8:30 am-1:30 pm through early June 2026
• Experience developing ESL curriculum and/or modifying existing curriculum to meet student needs
• Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching English to adults; TESOL or TOEFL certification strongly preferred
• Experience with or knowledge of the We Speak NYC curriculum highly preferred
• Experience working with vulnerable and marginalized populations is preferred
• Highly reliable, organized and able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Spanish language proficiency a plus but not required
• Willingness to undergo a background check

$40-$45/hr
