Position Description Primary Purpose and Essential FunctionsMcGeorge School of Law invites applications for one adjunct professor position to develop and teach a new fully online, asynchronous course in Health Law and Policy as part of McGeorge’s graduate program. This three-unit course will be offered to graduate students studying law, including Master of Science in Law (MSL) and Master of Laws (LLM) students.
Courses in the graduate program are to be fully online and asynchronous, tailored to the learning objectives of MSL graduate students studying law, and LLM students who seek to develop expertise in a specific field. The courses are intended to have a strong focus on projects, practical exercises, and case studies. Regular faculty‑student interaction, accessibility, and achievement of credit hour standards are the highest priorities.
The Health Law course is intended to be an introductory, survey‑type course that introduces graduate students to a broad range of public policies and laws that impact both health care providers and consumers of health care, and to help students develop practical skills for working in positions that require law and policy expertise. Topics covered might include subjects such as: federal and state regulation of hospitals, physicians and managed care organizations;
standards of care and medical malpractice; privacy and confidentiality; informed consent; access to care and federal/state reform proposals; public and private financing of health care; forms of health care enterprises, and end‑of‑life issues, among others. The adjunct professor will have the ability to assess the timeliness and merit of possible topics and to make choices about the scope and depth of coverage.
The adjunct professor will be required to follow a strict timeline for course development with mandatory deadlines and coordinate with McGeorge Online Graduate Programs and partners on an ongoing basis.
