Job Description & How to Apply Below

Relocation assistance available for the right candidate.

The National Center for Outdoor and Adventure Education (NCOAE) is hiring a Program Director to lead our intensive EMT training program in Wilmington, North Carolina.

This is a leadership role for an experienced leader and educator who wants more ownership, flexibility, and impact.

If you have experience teaching EMT students and are ready to lead a focused, high-quality EMS training program, we want to hear from you.

Candidates open to relocating to coastal North Carolina are encouraged to apply.

Position Commitment & Flexible Work Schedule

This role is considered a full-time annual position structured around the cyclical nature of our educational programs rather than a traditional year-round office schedule. The design of the role provides meaningful flexibility while maintaining consistent leadership, program quality, and staff support.

Typical annual commitments include:

  • Approximately 150 days of on-campus, in-person programming, aligned with course delivery, student engagement, and staff leadership.
  • Approximately 80 days of direct virtual instruction
    - Which are facilitated by our part-time instructor team; however, this role maintains ongoing oversight, coordination, and instructional leadership to ensure continuity, quality, and alignment across all programming.

Between program sessions, there are generally 10–14 day intervals without active courses, offering lighter workloads focused on planning, professional development, or flexible scheduling.

The month of December typically operates on a reduced schedule, consisting primarily of part-time office hours, program planning, and limited administrative responsibilities.

This leaves approximately 133 days (4.5 months) throughout the year without a scheduled course or student interaction—leaving flexible hours for shared administrative tasks.

Overall, this position is ideal for someone seeking a full-time professional role with built-in seasonal flexibility, a blend of in-person and remote work, and natural periods for recharge between intensive program cycles.

Position Requirements What You’ll Do
  • Lead our EMT training program in Wilmington, NC
  • Teach and mentor EMT students in immersive, hands‑on courses
  • Supervise and support instructors
  • Manage scheduling, compliance, and program logistics
  • Maintain North Carolina EMS standards

This is a working leadership role. You will teach. You will lead. You will shape the program.

What We’re Looking For
  • Experience teaching EMT students
  • Experience in out‑of‑hospital EMS care
  • Leadership or supervisory experience
  • North Carolina EMS certification, or ability to obtain it

Wilderness medicine experience is a plus, but not required.

If you are currently an EMT Instructor, EMS Educator, Paramedic, or Program Coordinator looking for more leadership responsibility and a lifestyle move, this could be a strong next step.

Why Consider This Role
  • Competitive salary: $63,000 to $72,000
  • Relocation assistance available
  • Focused EMT program, not a large bureaucratic institution
  • Opportunity to grow with the organization
Physical Requirements

Extensive use of computer keyboards and the telephone is required, as is the ability to lift and carry approximately 50 lbs. of equipment. As noted above, some travel may be required.
