Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Positive parenting experience or prior experience in child abuse prevention, home-based services, parent education, nursing, child development, and related areas.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to develop a warm, supportive and trusting environment for families.
  • Ability to use active listening and model basic infant caregiving skills and parenting techniques.
  • Ability to relate to families in crisis and be available by phone during regular business hours.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to maintain accurate written logs on family contacts.
  • Ability to be objective and make impartial decisions.

Responsibilities Direct Service
  • Establish a trusting relationship with families.
  • Assist parents in strengthening the parent-child relationship.
  • Assist parents in improving skills to optimize the home environment.
  • Improve the family support system.
  • Increase the family’s ability to problem solve and act as advocate for themselves and their children.
  • Identify and refer families for other supportive services, including health care services.
  • Assist families in establishing goals and support them throughout the process.
  • Schedule at least weekly visits with each family.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect participating parents and children as individuals.
Indirect Service
  • Assist families in establishing goals and support them throughout the process.
  • Implement activities outlined on the Family Service Plan to address areas of concern identified on the FROG scale.
  • Attend Family Resource Specialist and Family Support Specialist trainings, sessions, and others as indicated.
  • Attend weekly, individual, and monthly group supervisions.
  • Attend monthly in-services and trainings.
  • Assist in planning and implementing group activities for families.
  • Notify supervisor of any concerns about child abuse reports, families missing visits, potential problems, safety issues, and other program questions.
Assessment
  • Complete all required training for Family Resource/Support Specialist.
  • Administer the FROG Scale objectively and reliably in a relationship-building, conversational style.
  • Be knowledgeable of community resources to offer referrals.
  • Utilize information about child abuse and neglect dynamics appropriately.
  • Act as a mandated reporter when indicated.
  • Advocate for families as necessary.
  • Communicate and cooperate effectively with administrators, grant managers, community partners, and professionals.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect participants as individuals.
  • Notify supervisor and SOC Administrator of any concerns regarding child maltreatment, safety issues, and difficulties with partners.
  • Complete all necessary documentation within required time frames.
  • Initiate and maintain regular and long-term contact/visits while supporting families.
Program Management
  • Complete all necessary documentation within the program policy time frames.
