Job DescriptionMentor Teacher (K–12) – Candidate Pool
At Sheridan All Prep Academy, we believe education should meet students where they are - academically, socially, and emotionally. Our model blends flexibility, family partnership, and personalized learning to support the whole child.
We are building a candidate pool for future Mentor Teacher openings and invite educators who are excited to step beyond a traditional classroom role into one centered on relationships, mentorship, and individualized student support.
About the RoleThe Mentor Teacher is a student-centered educator who supports K–12 students and their families in a largely remote learning environment. Rather than focusing primarily on direct instruction, this role emphasizes mentorship, progress monitoring, and partnership with families to ensure students stay engaged, supported, and on track.
Mentor Teachers maintain regular communication with students and parents, provide academic guidance and resources, and help students build independence, organization, and time management skills.
What You’ll Do- Build strong, supportive relationships with students and families
- Conduct regular check-ins and required in-person visits with students and parents
- Monitor student progress and provide academic guidance and resources
- Support students in developing self-management, organization, and study skills
- Communicate regularly with families through calls, messages, and conferences
- Track attendance, maintain student records, and complete required documentation
- Collaborate with staff to support student success, including special education needs
- Participate in required meetings, trainings, and school events
- Ensure student safety, well-being, and compliance with school policies
- A relationship-driven educator who enjoys working closely with students and families
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage students in a virtual setting
- Comfort with flexibility, problem-solving, and adapting to student needs
- Ability to support students across a range of grade levels (K–12)
- Confidence using technology and troubleshooting basic technical issues
- A commitment to student success, independence, and whole-child development
- Valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate endorsement
- Bachelor’s degree (required);
Master’s degree preferred - Experience working with students in an educational setting
- Strong understanding of child development and instructional practices
- Reliable transportation for required in-person meetings and visits
- Ability to work both remotely and independently
This role is primarily remote and includes:
- Daily computer-based instruction and communication
- Virtual interaction with students, families, and staff
- Occasional in-person responsibilities as needed
