ACCEL Schools is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Principal to lead a public charter school in Lorain, Ohio for the school year. The principal will create a rigorous and nurturing environment that prioritizes student engagement and achievement.
Responsibilities- Instructional Leadership
- Lead the strategic instructional design and practice, implementing an integrated curriculum, directing coaching, using assessment data to guide instruction, and maximizing blended learning.
- Develop and lead instructional programs, assess curriculum, pedagogy, lesson plans, observe classes regularly, and encourage diverse instructional strategies.
- Deliver high levels of achievement for all students through rigorous programs.
- Work relentlessly to meet student achievement goals, school culture goals, and AYP goals.
- Facilitate standards‑based curriculum, review lesson plans, conduct walk‑throughs and debriefs.
- Take responsibility for academic achievement and social‑emotional wellbeing.
- Lead a growth‑focused professional environment.
- Develop cultural programming and PBIS process with emphasis on expected conduct.
- Coordinate teacher teams, staff in‑service days, data days.
- Implement consistent PD for teachers, aligned with research‑based methods.
- Apply behavior management practices that promote orderly behavior and motivational relationships.
- Facilitate the Special Education program and attain high student achievement.
- Coordinate summer educational opportunities and before/after school programs.
- Build a strong school community culture with positive relationships among staff, parents, students.
- Provide collaborative leadership for supervision, coaching, and performance management.
- Lead the teacher evaluation program and ensure access to professional goals and ACCEL best practices.
- Evaluate teachers per Ohio Teacher Evaluation System.
- Oversee the PD program for collaboration and meaningful summer experience.
- Create a student support system addressing academic and behavioral needs with parental involvement.
- Organizational Leadership
- Manage daily operations: facilities, technology, food services, data systems, assessment tools, office, budget, recruitment, and retention.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and the charter renewal process.
- Assist with national lunch program, transportation, audits, applications, approvals.
- Oversee enrollment reporting requirements to the state.
- Achieve 85% student retention annually.
- Clarify compliance with the Sponsor Agreement.
- Create a master calendar, maintain marketing and communications tools.
- Communicate regularly with Home Office/Operations Team and Regional Vice President.
- Ensure safety and wellbeing of students and staff.
- Update policies and handbooks.
- Community Leadership
- Act as the charter school’s liaison to the local community.
- Communicate mission and solicit input on performance.
- Cultivate partnerships with external organizations and local districts.
- Plan and conduct student and family orientations.
- Coordinate special projects such as peer mentoring and community involvement.
- Conduct home visits as needed.
- Perform other related duties.

- Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (advanced degree preferred).
- Valid Principal license.
- Minimum three years of full‑time teaching experience.
- Two or more years in school administration or instructional leadership in an urban setting.
- Experience developing rigorous academic programs meeting all student needs.
- Experience with public education accountability, compliance, and lawful requirements.
- Coaching teachers in instructional planning and classroom culture.
- Knowledge of State Standards and Common Core.
