Location:

Loudoun County Public Schools Virtual Distance Learning Office – Ashburn, Virginia.

Job overview:
The distance learning teacher works predominantly asynchronously with required synchronous weekly meetings outside of the regular school day. They plan, design, implement, and assess an instructional program in a distance learning environment that guides a diverse group of students at all instructional levels to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The teacher designs learning experiences, creates and reinforces classroom expectations, develops assessments, monitors student progress, and communicates regularly with parents about student progress.

The teacher is expected to promote an environment that is challenging, equitable, empowering, and developmentally responsive.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Establish a safe and supportive learning environment that enables each student to demonstrate agency, ownership, and reflection.
  • Design and implement authentic and engaging learning experiences using the Virginia Standards of Learning, LCPS curriculum, and effective distance learning strategies.
  • Personalize instruction based upon student needs and manage time to maximize learning opportunities.
  • Assess student growth in relation to educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.
  • Adhere to LCPS Assessment and Grading policy and guidelines.
  • Analyze assessment data to refine teaching and learning experiences.
  • Communicate regularly with students and parents, guardians about progress toward instructional objectives.
  • Engage and manage online learner behavior to ensure a conducive learning environment.
  • Plan instructional activities with other professional staff to maximize learning opportunities.
  • Support colleagues, students, parents, and community stakeholders to promote student learning and mastery of content and competencies.
  • May direct the work of teacher assistants, student teachers, and volunteers.
  • Participate actively in the program’s professional learning community.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license; endorsement to teach in more than one subject area preferred.
  • Experience or readiness to teach more than one course/prep.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and effective teaching methodology.
  • Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs in a distance learning environment.
  • Skilled in the use of multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication.
  • Excellent human relations skills.
  • Excels in the distance learning environment as a teacher and collaborator.
Physical Requirements

Regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Frequently sitting or remaining stationary for long periods.
