Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate face‑to‑face instruction in the assigned academic subject area to foster their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development. Facilitate the development of competencies and skills necessary for success in society. Additionally, may offer distance or virtual learning options when required to accommodate individual needs and ensure the continuity of instruction.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university;
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.

Skills:

Knowledge of subjects assigned;
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction;
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior;
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans and activities through distance, virtual, or face‑to‑face learning to fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles and needs.
  • Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, materials, and equipment that reflect students’ learning styles and needs.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to inform instructional activities.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students per IEP guidelines.
  • Partner with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Use technology to strengthen teaching/learning and provide blended learning opportunities.
Student Growth and Development
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and support the school district mission.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
Communication
  • Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during scheduled conference periods or designated office hours to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents.
  • Maintain daily communication with students or parents via Google Classroom, Google Meet, Microsoft Office 365 Email, phone, or video conference, and keep an ongoing contact log.
  • Hold conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers to establish and maintain open communication.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Employ effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Provide ongoing feedback on student achievement through formal and informal methods on mastery of lessons per district grading procedures.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Other
  • Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and documents.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform duties in a safe manner to avoid injury.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).

  • Work prolonged or irregular hours, prolonged sitting, repetitive computer work, frequent use of hands and wrists.

  • Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing; move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom items.
