Job SummaryThe Assistant Director for Instructional Design, Engagement and Assistance (IDEA), under the supervision of the Director of Instructional Design, will support the development of innovative online courses and programs, provide personalized technical and pedagogical faculty support, manage faculty and student feedback collection and reporting, and supervise the Instructional Technology Coordinator and the Instructional Technology Specialist. They will play an active role in decisions related to technology within online courses, ensuring experiences meet degree program specifications and institutional expectations for rigor, quality, and scalability.
The Assistant Director will specialize in two areas: managing online course technologies and faculty development. This position will be expected to perform significant work within the LMS in AU Online courses to provide the needed support for delivery, but will have no responsibility for the oversight and functioning of the LMS.
- PROVIDE PREMIUM SUPPORT FOR INSTRUCTORS:
Consult with faculty on best practices in online teaching; communicate with faculty on a scheduled basis for support; address faculty requests for assistance in a timely manner; collect instructor feedback on courses and share with the Director; recommend changes to courses based on faculty requests via Mojo Helpdesk; maintain a log of changes requested by faculty; employ a coaching stance for teaching observations and support. - PRODUCE AND MANAGE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES AND OPP:
Conduct needs assessments; develop and implement faculty development opportunities (pedagogical and technical) in various modalities; collaborate with IDEA team and university faculty; generate detailed reports of faculty engagement; manage the faculty recognition program; implement faculty communication plan. - MANAGE FACULTY AND STUDENT FEEDBACK COLLECTION AND REPORTING:
Manage opportunities for feedback on courses and AUO experience; report data to the Director; make recommendations for changes based on feedback; serve as the voice of faculty in IDEA Team discussions. - SUPERVISE THE INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY COORDINATOR AND THE INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST:
Serve as Approver within OneUSG for time off and other matters; provide support and coaching on time management; establish collaborative relationships with the two roles; update the Director weekly on projects and workload; ensure work plans and logs are accessible; mentor the teams. - ONGOING PROFESSIONAL GROWTH:
Update knowledge and skills related to faculty development and educational technology; present or publish scholarship related to educational technology and teaching.
