Job Summary: University Health Services seeks a Healthy Academic Environments Program Manager, a role dedicated to supporting the UW‑Madison teaching community. Positioned within the Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Team, the manager will work closely with the Division of Teaching and Learning to create conditions that support student mental health. The manager engages the teaching and learning community and academic partners to integrate prevention‑focused strategies across academic environments.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, organize, and evaluate population‑health initiatives based on sound data, theory, and evidence.
  • Apply evidence‑based theories, frameworks, and assessments according to current health research and practice.
  • Gather and evaluate population‑level health data and engage with stakeholders to discern needs and interests, building capacity for population‑level health improvement.
  • Serve as a liaison to the Division of Teaching & Learning to build referral pathways and communication channels with academic‑facing staff.
  • Provide consultation, training, and capacity‑building resources for stakeholders to advance a health‑promoting setting with respect to policies, learning and working environments, physical spaces, services, student development, and opportunities for social connectedness.
  • Develop and maintain a liaison relationship with the Division of Teaching & Learning and the Center for Teaching, Learning & Mentoring.
  • Collaborate with teaching and learning community partners to identify opportunities to enhance academic environments.
  • Support teaching and learning communities in deploying and evaluating health promotion strategies tailored for an academic environment.
  • Represent UHS in teaching and learning improvement efforts to support appropriate integration of health and well‑being strategies and messages.
  • Coordinate and align strategies with UHS prevention, data, and communications teams.
  • May supervise student employees and/or graduate assistants.
Compensation and Benefits

Required Qualifications
  • Experience delivering training or educational programs to adult learners.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of population‑level prevention strategies and evidence‑based frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and facilitating training on items that support students’ mental health.
  • Subject matter expertise in mental health, population health approaches, teaching and pedagogical principles.
  • Experience interpreting and communicating data to non‑technical audiences, including translating health data into actionable insights.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting with faculty, instructors, teaching assistants, or professional staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication skills, able to produce accurate, well‑organized, and audience‑appropriate written materials.
  • Effective organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education

Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s or PhD preferred. Areas of specialization may include public health, education, health sciences, social work, psychology, counseling, teaching and learning, and other related fields.

Location and Work Arrangement

Typical remote work arrangements require on‑site work at our Madison, WI campus at least 60%, with a schedule determined by supervisors. Remote work privileges can be granted by the director or assistant directors, depending on operational need. All staff consistently working remotely must meet campus requirements for remote work and have required documentation in place (Policy UW‑5087).
