Position: Automotive Adjunct Professor (5-credit)

Position Overview

Adjunct faculty salary for the  fiscal year is $1,165.00- $1,189.00 per credit hour, as listed in the CBA. South Puget Sound Community College seeks candidates for a 5‑credit part‑time/adjunct position teaching evening courses in the Automotive Department. The position can start as early as September 1, 2026, but may change pending enrollment, and is renewed quarterly based on enrollment and demand.

These positions are expected to have 8 hours of student‑facing teaching per week. The instructor should be able to teach and guide students in the diagnosis and repair of passenger cars and light trucks in both lecture and lab settings. The teaching assignments will be in the evening hours. The recruitment is open to all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications stated below.

Responsibilities
  • Craft contextualized and integrated learning experiences to meet stated student learning outcomes at the course, program, and college level.
  • Create and facilitate authentic, contextualized, and integrated learning experiences in Automotive Technology aligned with identified college pathways and career goals.
  • Create authentic assessments of students' knowledge, skills, and abilities in Automotive Technology and college-level abilities that measure course‑, program‑, and college-wide outcomes.
  • Apply multiple teaching and learning strategies that promote the affective, cognitive, and kinesthetic domains of learning.
  • Advise students regarding academic pathways and the courses needed to reach each student's academic goals.
  • Use local, state, and national data and analytics to continuously improve strategies for student success.
  • Use many learning resources, tools, and technologies to improve access and student success in higher education.
  • Serve on committees that support the college's shared governance.
  • Remain current with automotive trends and breakthroughs and incorporate them into the curriculum.
  • Possess the knowledge to perform at a high skill level in all eight automotive service and repair areas.
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Support the college's mission by creating a work environment of mutual respect and fairness while encouraging creative and critical thinking.

Qualifications
  • Associate's degree related to Automotive Technology or three (3) years of recent industry experience in automotive technology.
  • Successful applicants will be required to obtain current ASE Certification within 90 days of hire, including ASE A6 – Electrical/Electronic Systems Certification and ASE G1 – Auto Maintenance and Light Repair Certification.
  • Ability to work an evening schedule.
  • Ability to provide and teach automotive skills, automotive theory, and operations and maintenance of automotive equipment in a structured lecture and lab environment.
  • A Washington State Professional Technical Vocational Certificate or the ability to become vocationally certificated, which requires at least two years of applicable experience within the last five years.
