The Department Chair is responsible for providing leadership to faculty, students, and Program Chairs who oversee ASN, BSN, and Master’s Direct Entry programs of study at Herzing University. Department Chairs have one or more Program Chairs as direct reports, in some locations, faculty may report directly to the Department Chair.
As a member of the campus-based academic leadership team, the Department Chair serves in both a tactical and strategic capacity. The tactical leadership responsibilities include hiring, training, developing and evaluating staff, and potentially faculty, and supervision of both faculty and staff, but extends to programmatic management as well. This may include data collection, analysis and reporting.
The Department Chair actively participates in new student orientation, contributes to various committees, and contributes to faculty and staff training. As an academic leader, the Department Chair plays a visible role for our students as well. This can include provision of student advising, resolution of student complaints, and/or intervention when student engagement or academic progress is in question.
Requirements- Doctorate Degree in Nursing DNP or PhD required
- Active and unencumbered Wisconsin or compact state Registered Nurse (RN) license
- At least 5 years of online teaching experience preferred
- CCNE accreditation experience preferred

Physical Requirements- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Ability to move about readily and rapidly, if necessary, around campus, classrooms, clinical settings, etc., to access classrooms, desks, students, office machinery, clinics, patients, etc.
- Constantly communicates using the spoken word with students, staff and colleagues.
- Visually or otherwise identify, observe and assess.
- Operate equipment specific to programmatic track, personal computer, audio-visual equipment, clinical equipment, etc.
- Travel to off-site meetings or conferences or to observe students during clinical education at off-site clinical settings.
- In addition to the above requirements, for programs that include a clinical component, all faculty must be able to:
- Stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to reach by extending hands or arms in any direction.
- Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects.
- Ability to see and hear within normal parameters.
- Lift up to 25 pounds.
