Job Title

Part‑Time History Faculty – dedicated to empowering a diverse and vibrant student community through the study of history.

Job Description

Under the general supervision of the assigned TrAC Dean, the Professor will teach History classes at the instructional level. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, and academic diversity within community‑college populations and how these factors relate to the need for equity‑minded and culturally responsive practices.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct and organize History classes to meet the educational requirements stated in the course description and course outline.
  • Advise and assist students in achieving stated course objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate the progress of each student and connect students to appropriate campus‑support services.
  • Select textbooks, audiovisual and other instructional materials that support the learning environment and reflect the college's mission of equity‑minded education.
  • Maintain currency in the field of history.
  • Maintain necessary records of student enrollment, attendance, progress, and grades; prepare and submit required reports to administration.
  • Report to management any condition that could jeopardize the health or safety of students or the public.
  • Be familiar with and act in accordance with the Education Code and San Joaquin Delta Community College District policies and procedures.
  • Plan and complete approved professional development activities each semester/year.
  • Work collaboratively with the college to promote student equity and success.
  • Provide guidance and direction to Readers, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as specified in the faculty contract and outlined in Board Policy.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Master’s degree in History.
    • Or Bachelor’s degree in History plus a Master’s degree in Political Science, Humanities, Geography, Area Studies, Women’s Studies, Social Science, or Ethnic Studies.
    • Or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Desirable Qualifications
    • Demonstrated sensitivity to protected characteristics such as race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender, disability, and other legally protected bases.
    • Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to diverse student abilities, learning styles, cultures, and groups.
    • Experience teaching in a variety of settings, including online, dual enrollment, and large lectures, and willingness to develop instructional materials for multiple modalities.
    • Ability to use innovative and creative teaching techniques, including multimedia hardware, learning management systems, and online instructional strategies.
    • Desire to teach both in‑person and online classes, as well as dual enrollment courses with high school students.
