Overview
The Teacher Education Program in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education at the School of Education and Human Development is seeking University Student Teacher Supervisors (USTS) with extensive teaching or supervision experience to provide online supervision and support to practicum and internship students in our online ESL and Special Education teacher licensure programs in their clinical placements located in public schools in Virginia and across the country.
Responsibilities- Facilitate meetings with mentor teacher/student teacher pairs.
- Conduct in-person and video observation cycles with student teachers (3 cycles for practicum students; 5 cycles for student teachers).
- Communicate students’ progress to the Teacher Education faculty and staff.
- Use a web-based video observation tool to provide targeted feedback to students.
- Maintain frequent email, text, and Zoom check‑ins with students.
- Use learning assessment and management systems.
- Learn and utilize the web‑based observation tool.
- Respond to email or text inquiries within 24 hours.
- Provide additional coaching and support to students if needed.
- Communicate regularly with academic program coordinators and seminar instructors, and the Teacher Education Office.
- Attend a virtual half‑day training day in the summer and virtual follow‑up meetings during the year.
All initial meetings, initial observations, and final evaluation meetings are held virtually; other meetings are held on Zoom. Pay is $287/student for coaching practicum students and $575/student for coaching Internship II students.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree preferred. - At least three years full‑time experience teaching PreK‑12 students in public schools.
- Knowledge of current best practices in education.
- Current or previously held professional teaching license.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with a range of technology platforms.
- Experience using learning/assessment management programs.
- High‑speed internet access and personal tablets or computers with video streaming capability.
- Experience mentoring student teachers and working with novice teachers (preferred).

This position is primarily sedentary, involving extensive use of a desktop computer. The job occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
