Under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services, to assist students, teachers, and parents in enabling students to derive the fullest potential educational experience from school by promoting positive self‑esteem and resilience and providing suggested methods and plans for overcoming psychological or mental health problems.
Essential Performance Responsibilities- Conduct psychological assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to recommend courses of action or corrective procedures to maximize learning and address psychological issues.
- Provide individual, group, or facilitative therapy for students whose diagnosed problems would benefit from behavior modification or differentiated instruction.
- Assist with the identification and placement of all types of exceptional students.
- Coordinate with administrators and teaching staff to ascertain individual student abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and familiarize stakeholders with psychological services.
- Attend IEP meetings as needed for students with special needs.
- Serve as a resource and consultant on mental health and child psychology, conducting in‑service programs as requested.
- Assist with the district's dropout prevention efforts.
- Provide counseling to promote students’ personal growth, self‑understanding, and maturity.
- Continuously acquire professional knowledge by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, conducting research, and maintaining professional relationships.
- Maintain accurate and complete record‑keeping; provide student information to prospective colleges and employers as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement in students’ education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, aids, and other supplies; maintain inventory records.

Travel RequirementsTravels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of child psychology principles, assessments, behavior modification, and current developments in child psychology.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation concerning performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Work occurs in standard office and school building environments.
Qualifications Profile- Certification/License:
Delaware State Certification as School Psychologist. - Successful candidates must provide evidence of successful PRAXIS II scores or a valid out‑of‑state teaching license. An educator applying for a license in the State of DE with less than 1 year of experience will be placed on an Initial License and will be required to take and pass a Performance Assessment by the end of their 2nd year of teaching. Applicants with one completed year of experience, but less than 4 years of experience will receive an Initial License and are NOT required to pass a Performance Assessment (with proof of current and valid out‑of‑state license).
