High School Science Teacher

Job Summary

The High School Science Teacher will deliver state‑certified instruction in a fully online environment for Arkansas Virtual Academy (ARVA). The role is full‑time, remote, and requires occasional travel for school functions such as testing and professional development. The teacher will create engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences, personalize instruction, and maintain accurate grade books and student data.

• Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
• Commit to personalizing learning for all students and demonstrate belief in each student’s ability to succeed.
• Differentiated instruction based on student mastery levels.
• Augment course content following prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate tools under guidance from principal and coach.
• Maintain grade book ensuring academic integrity, make placement and promotion decisions, and alert administrators to performance concerns.
• Prepare students for high‑stakes standardized tests.
• Establish and maintain positive rapport with families, communicate regularly with students and learning coaches, and respond in a timely manner.
• Support learning coaches and parents with curricular, instructional, and basic troubleshooting issues in the virtual classroom.
• Travel as required (once per month on average and/or ~20% of the time) for face‑to‑face professional development and testing.

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Active Arkansas Department of Education High School Science teaching certification.
• Ability to clear required background check.

• Experience teaching the proposed age group in a high school setting.
• Experience supporting adults and children in technology use and online learning platforms.
• Experience in online (virtual) and/or brick‑and‑mortar environments.
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data and use it to drive instructional decisions.
• Receptive to coaching and change for student outcomes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint.
• Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
• Maintenance of teacher certification and professional development hours, fluency in K12 systems, programs and curriculum.

Salary will be determined based on education, experience and qualifications, and will be placed in the bottom half of the salary range for the position. Benefits include the standard K12 employee package, though specific benefits are not listed in this description.

This is a fully remote, virtual, work‑from‑home position. Candidates should maintain a professional home office and be available for at least 40 hours per week, typically 9a.m.–5p.m. or 8a.m.–4p.m., or as defined by the school.
