Do you enjoy helping other students learn concepts and succeed? The School of Nursing in collaboration with the Learning Commons is currently recruiting for student employees to tutor nursing students. Nursing tutors facilitate student learning and help nursing students better understand concepts or applications of nursing course content.

Nursing tutors facilitate student learning and help students better understand concepts or applications of nursing course content. Nursing tutors support students and assist them in gaining effective study skills and maximizing their potential for their academic success. Nursing tutors are needed in:
Pharmacology, Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology, Med/Surgical (1st & 2nd level), Fundamentals of Nursing, Obstetrics and Pediatrics.

Job Duties:

* Follow all procedures and policies set by the School of Nursing and the Learning Commons.

* Be familiar with campus academic resources available to students.

* Report immediately to the coordinator when critical issues arise.

* Submit attendance report bi-weekly to the Learning Commons Director.

* Submit timesheets to the Learning Commons Director for approval as scheduled by the UAA Payroll Office.

Expectations:

* Act in a professional manner, and be sensitive to and respectful of student needs.

* Notify Learning Commons Director and students in advance if you need to reschedule or cancel an session.

* Keep all information on students you work with confidential.

* Support and care about student success.

To be successful in this role, applicants should demonstrate the following qualities.

* Effective communication skills.

* Ability to work up to 10 hours of scheduled tutoring weekly.

* Prior enrollment in the course(s) to be tutored highly desirable.

* Capacity to work with students with diverse backgrounds.

* Commitment to work the time promised.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Applicants have passed full majoy nursing courses with a B or higher.

* Demonstrated strong communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts clearly.

* Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work with diverse learners.

Preferred Qualifications:

* A UA Nursing student fully admitted into the Nursing major or a graduate nursing student.

* Successfully completed Pharmacology (PHARM) and Pathophysiology (PATHO) with a grade of B or higher.

* Applicants hold an active RN license.

Position Details:

This position is located at the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage.

This is a part-time, non-exempt temporary staff position, 12 month. Rate of pay $18.18 an hour.
