Student Attendance Specialist - Indiana Statewide
The Student Attendance Specialist supports school compliance with Indiana attendance laws (IC 20-33-2 and IC 20-20-8-8) by ensuring students attend school regularly and by intervening early when attendance concerns arise. This role focuses on communication, documentation, family support, and truancy follow-up. The Attendance Specialist works closely with teachers, administrators, and the Student Support Team to promote consistent attendance and remove barriers that prevent students from fully engaging in their online learning.
As HCCA continues to grow, this role is essential for maintaining accurate daily attendance records, supporting families, and fulfilling state reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate school wide attendance efforts and absenteeism prevention initiatives.
* Educate families on attendance expectations and provide support to resolve underlying issues.
* Monitor student adherence to attendance policies in collaboration with teaching staff.
* Communicate with families through calls, emails, and automated messaging regarding attendance concerns.
* Participate in truancy meetings and recommend students/families for intervention as needed.
* Maintain accurate attendance data for state reporting and compliance.
* Process attendance withdrawals in accordance with school and state requirements.
* Produce attendance and truancy reports for school, county, and state agencies.
* Develop individualized attendance improvement plans with families and staff.
* Collaborate with school leaders to enhance attendance-related procedures.
* Assist in preventing juvenile delinquency by addressing attendance-related barriers.
* Facilitate workshops for families and staff on attendance and absenteeism.
* Support projects related to attendance and truancy as assigned.
Required Qualifications
* High School Diploma or GED
* AND
* Two (2) years of truancy-related experience
* OR
* Equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications
* Knowledge of state attendance laws and K-12 educational regulations
* Familiarity with state court procedures related to truancy
* Experience working in an online or virtual learning environment
* Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
* Ability to pass a required background check
* Three (3) years of experience working with families in education, enrollment, or truancy
* Postsecondary degree in Education, Counseling, Human Services, or related field
Work Environment
* Home-based position
* May require occasional in-office days depending on supervisor needs
