Job Description & How to Apply Below
The UAA Faculty Success unit is seeking a full-time Instructional Designer to support faculty with course design, the learning management system (LMS), and related instructional technologies. The Faculty Success instructional design team is responsible for faculty training and development, support of teaching and learning across modes of delivery, and the effective use of academic technologies and platforms. If you're excited about working with faculty to help students succeed, we encourage you to apply!
This position includes working with individual instructors to design and deliver courses in Blackboard Ultra, building and leading asynchronous and synchronous trainings on course design topics, providing support for LMS-integrated platforms (such as Digication, Voice Thread, Zoom), and helping instructors troubleshoot technology issues. Most weeks mix independent work, meetings or small group workshops, one-on-one faculty help sessions, and creative problem-solving with our team and campus partners.
A sample day might include meetings with instructors from different disciplines to help with their Blackboard courses, responding to an email by creating a video walk-through, drafting a faculty guide on AI-aware assessment options, researching and testing a tool in response to an error report, providing feedback to instructors' plans for Regular and Substantive Interaction, and brainstorming strategies for a new project.
UAA faculty teach everything from Alaska Native languages to welding, so we always have something new to learn.
We're looking for someone who demonstrates effective communication and project management skills, expertise working with instructional technology, the ability to collaborate with colleagues and faculty, a strong commitment to UAA's mission, and a deep understanding of educational best practices, accessibility standards, and the evolving challenges of higher education. A typical candidate will have a bachelor's degree in a related field and 2-4 years experience in developing online and/or instructor-led learning products, or an equivalent combination of training and experience;
and demonstrated experience assisting faculty members with the effective use of technology in traditional, web-enhanced, hybrid and online learning environments. If you can view teaching from a faculty perspective and get excited when presented with an unusual problem to solve, you may thrive in this position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related field and 2-4 years experience in developing online and/or instructor-led learning products, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
