Job Overview

Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the on‑going development of curriculum that meets the needs of students and employers utilizing instructional strategies that promote student success.

Responsibilities
  • Learning Facilitation:
    Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement; create learning experiences that integrate instructional technologies for hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online course delivery.
  • Assessment:
    Assess student learning and provide regular feedback; use data to measure outcomes such as persistence, retention, completion rate, and course success, and design improvement strategies based on evidence.
  • Curriculum Development:
    Develop and continually revise curriculum and instructional materials that are competency‑based, current, and aligned with employer expectations and college policy.
  • Classroom Management:
    Maintain accurate student attendance and grade records; ensure a safe instructional environment, keep course materials and textbooks available, and evaluate student engagement.
  • Team Participation:
    Engage in division, department, and team activities and meetings, including planning, development, budgeting, and staying current with internal and external initiatives.
  • Business & Community Engagement:
    Build and maintain relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners by participating in advisory committees, external meetings, business visits, and community groups; collaborate with staff to recruit students and promote the college and its programs.
  • Student Success & Support:
    Advocate for students, collaborate with Student Services to retain students and close achievement gaps, advise on class schedules, career information, internships, and other program‑related information.
  • Professional Development:
    Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, occupational practices, and teaching; engage in professional development activities, network with regional industry leaders, and integrate new techniques and technology.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Possess a degree at the level in which the instructor will be teaching and additional experience beyond the requirement; plan to obtain a bachelor’s degree with approval by the Vice President – Learning and Chief Academic Officer.
  • Experience:

    Four years of occupational experience in the program’s field, with at least two years within the last five years; a single year (or 2,000 hours) may be waived for instructors with at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within five years prior to appointment.
  • Teaching/Training

    Experience:

    Desired, but not required.
  • Licensing:
    Wisconsin Cosmetology licensure required.
  • Skills:

    Proficiency in learning management systems; strong verbal communication; rapid adaptability to changing demands; effective professional communication with diverse audiences; commitment to continuous improvement through innovative methodologies and delivery methods.
  • Compliance:
    Must maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies; exceptions to education and experience requirements may be considered with approval from the Vice President of Learning/Chief Academic Officer.
