Job Overview
Reporting to the Area Manager/Regional Program Director, the CDL Program Director leads the CDL Program, providing subject matter expertise, actively engaging in curriculum development, revision, and implementation. As the subject matter expert for the program, the Director delivers product knowledge training to the Account Management group and supports student recruitment and orientation. The Director hires, assigns, orientates, develops, evaluates, and recognizes Driver Trainers.
Regular faculty meetings are convened, and student populations are monitored and supported, including advising students during provisional periods, responding to complaints, and addressing engagement or academic progress issues. The Director analyzes student data, collaborates with faculty and staff on risk identification, and initiates support and student services. Continuous improvement of the program is pursued through data collection, campus effectiveness planning, and program performance analysis.
- Supports Driver Trainer advising for students receiving failing assessments.
- Provides academic advising as needed; refers students to outside resources when counseling needs exceed the scope of the school; arranges for tutoring when required.
- Leads student retention initiatives for students who experience barriers to success.
- Maintains regular contact with all students in the program, responding to questions and concerns in a timely manner; posts office hours.
- References students to appropriate staff for non‑academic problem resolution.
- Contacts students who miss days from class or accumulate more than four absences during the course.
- Maintains records of interactions and correspondence with students (e.g., phone calls, emails, mail).
- Monitors contact and results of contact from Driver Trainers to students in assigned program area(s); makes weekly calls to students who were not reached, did not return as promised, or did not offer plans to return by a specific date; offers appropriate academic advice and demonstrates genuine interest in students.
- Identifies students needing tutoring.
- Serves as subject matter expert regarding academic curriculum for the program area.
- Participates in the curriculum development/revision process led by the Home Office Executive team.
- Provides leadership in the implementation of new and revised curriculum.
- Contributes input into creating the master schedule regarding course sequencing, offerings, room assignments, and Driver Trainer teaching assignments.
- Assists Area Manager/Regional Program Director in recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of faculty.
- Orients, monitors, supervises, mentors, and assists new Driver Trainers.
- Ensures all program area Driver Trainers adhere to required administrative and classroom delivery duties as outlined in the CDL Driver Trainer job description.
- Ensures completeness of faculty files, official transcripts, professional development, observations, and performance reviews.
- Provides leadership and support to all Driver Trainers and supervises instructional and program needs.
- Observes classes and coaches Trainer instructional presentation and classroom management skills.
- Conducts performance appraisals, identifying strengths and improvement recommendations.
- Conducts regular weekly day and evening faculty meetings, documenting outcomes.
- Provides departmental product knowledge training to Account Management and Career Services personnel as requested.
- Updates departments on trends and changes in program specialty areas.
- Assists account management personnel with student recruitment when requested.
- Promotes faculty participation in professional development activities and documents these activities.
- Participates in at least one professional organization within the community.
