Overview
Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) seeks to develop applicant pools for adjunct faculty to teach course offerings throughout the academic year. WWCC offers opportunities for adjunct faculty to teach courses at all of our campuses:
Walla Walla, Clarkston, Washington State Penitentiary, Coyote Ridge Corrections Center, as well as online/remotely. Part-time/temporary adjunct faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. WWCC offers a wide range of opportunities in extended learning, dual-credit, workplace learning, outreach learning, and personal enrichment programs.
Note:
The current pool remains in effect until June 30, 2026. Applications will be reviewed as scheduling needs dictate.
General responsibilities encompass facilitating student learning through preparation and delivery of course materials, providing timely feedback on assignments and exams, assigning final grades, and connecting students to campus resources and support services. Essential responsibilities for the adjunct physics instructor pool include:
- Teach assigned classes at the scheduled time and place
- Demonstrate professional skills appropriate to the teaching assignment
- Provide each student with a comprehensive syllabus at the beginning of the quarter
- Provide clear explanations, assignments, and directions
- Conduct appropriate and frequent evaluations of student performance and provide feedback
- Assign and submit grades based on evaluations and the college grading policy
- Maintain student records and grades in the College's LMS
- Post and be available for a minimum of one (1) office hour per week
- Maintain course outlines and syllabi to reflect program curriculum
- Review and recommend program textbooks, materials, and technology
- Utilize available technology appropriate to the assignment
- Master's Degree in Physics; closely related credentialing may substitute at the discretion of the college
- Demonstrated proficiency teaching at the college level (two years minimum); experience as a teaching assistant or adjunct instructor may count towards the requirement
- For remote work, residence in WA, OR, , CA, IL, PA, or TX
- Doctoral Degree in Physics
- Experience teaching at a community college
- Experience using instructional technology to support student learning (LMS, digital whiteboards, Zoom)
- Experience teaching in multiple modalities (in-person, hybrid, blended, online)
- Experience working with diverse populations
This is a part-time instructional assignment contingent on enrollment, located at the Walla Walla Campus and online. Applicants must provide acceptable documentation of lawful employment in the United States within three days of employment and provide transcripts. WWCC participates in E-Verify and may require a background check. The college is tobacco-free. Direct deposit is required for salary payments.
CompensationCompensation for an adjunct instructor is contingent on enrollment and paid in accordance with the contract between the WWCC Board of Trustees and the WWCC Association for Higher Education. See the WWCC Human Resources page and Appendix C for the adjunct salary schedule.
