- Pay Rate: $60.00 $ 65.00 / Hour (USD)
- Shift / Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM (PST)
- Travel Requirements: Quarterly travel required to client locations, including the Sierra region. Occasional overnight stays may be necessary to support client meetings and project milestones. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.

This is a Contract Instructional Designer role supporting apprenticeship training programs in the Power Generation utility industry. The designer will work under the direction of a Senior Instructional Designer to apply company standards, guidelines, and templates, collaborating closely with subject matter experts to develop technical learning materials. The position is primarily remote with quarterly travel into the client's service territory.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop instructor-led and on-the-job training for apprenticeships in the Power Generation utility industry.
- Develop learning materials for technical content, including hands-on practice activities, student guides, facilitator guides, scenarios, videos, assessments, simulations, and other instructional media.
- Perform a detailed task analysis for each job function, business process, or system for which training will be developed.
- Define learning objectives, and course structure aligned to stakeholder needs and to meet the constraints of the learning environment.
- Work under the direction of the Senior Instructional Designer to apply company standards, guidelines, and templates.
- Participate in milestone meetings with subject matter experts, including task analysis, alpha, beta, train the trainer, and pilot.
- Engage with subject matter experts for ongoing content review and validation.
- Available during office hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (PST) Monday Friday.
- 3+ years of experience developing instructor-led training for technical skills; such as electrical utilities or related industries.
- Skilled in instructional design methodologies and technical writing.
- Experienced in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Self-manage assigned tasks and deadlines to complete deliverables on time.
- Work closely with team and subject matter experts to proactively communicate concerns, issues, and risks.
- Technical writing and training development experience.
- Detail oriented with strong communication skills.
- Team player, willing to learn and receptive to feedback.
- Experience in hydroelectric operations, general construction, and heavy equipment operation.
- Experience with Question Mark, Author-It, and/or Articulate 360.
- Skilled in graphic design.
- Teaching experience.
- Prior Instructional Designer or Senior Instructional Designer experience.
- Prior experience with the client organization.
- Bachelor's degree in instructional design or education-related areas of study (required).
- Master's degree in instructional design or education-related areas of study (preferred).
- Primarily work from home.
- Quarterly travel is required to client locations, including the Sierra region.
- Occasional overnight stays may be necessary to support client meetings and project milestones.
- Local candidates residing in the Bay Area / near Livermore and within the client's service territory required.
- Equipment:
Client will issue a laptop; any additional equipment needed is to be provided by the supplier. No reimbursement for cell or internet. Calls to be made via MS Teams or cell.
