ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: Hydrological Monitoring (HYM) Section, WIGOS Division

The WMO Strategic Plan emphasizes the importance of valuing weather, climate, water and related environmental services. It calls for increased support to National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) in assessing and enhancing the socioeconomic benefits (SEB) of their services. The Phase II of the WMO Hydro Hub project aims to promote SEB awareness in the Pacific through trainings, in line with the joint (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)./54637
Task 1:
Preparation of training material
- Review and refine developed presentations and practical exercises (case studies, group work).
- Ensure materials are tailored to the Pacific context.
Task 2:
Delivery of face‑to‑face training
- Conduct a 2‑day face‑to‑face training session in the region for selected participants.
- Focus countries:
Fiji, Kiribati, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu.
- Detailed workplan, training agenda and refined outline within 15 days of contract signing.
- Finalized training material incorporating Secretariat feedback within 2 weeks of feedback.
- Delivery of training and submission of final report within 2 weeks after training delivery.
Education: Master’s degree or equivalent (PhD is an asset) in Economics, Environmental Economics or closely related field.
Experience:
- At least 10 years in socioeconomic analysis (e.g. cost benefit analysis).
- Track record of recent engagements and experience delivering trainings/seminars.
- Strong knowledge of water resources management, climate change issues, and hydrometeorology/climate information services.
- Experience engaging with communities and working with national, regional and international organizations, including United Nations.
Other requirements:
- Understanding cultural sensitivities of the region.
- Excellent analytical, capacity development/training and communication skills.
- Experience in the Pacific region is a plus.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English (oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of WMO is an advantage. (Official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONProposed fee: Band C: 390.00 - 560.00 USD per day depending on experience, knowledge and skills.
